Studies show that music training in childhood “fundamentally alters the nervous system” and that these changes “persist in adulthood” after training has ended.
In the 2019-2020 orchestra concert season, women composers accounted for only 8% of programmed works. Additionally, composers from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and cultural
heritages accounted for only 6% of programmed works.
Our goal is to aid in the promotion of music education through scholarships aimed at supporting compelling educators that inspire the next generation of youth in music. Additionally, we aim to promote underrepresented composers through the promotion and commissioning of new works by this group.
